Benefactor was foaled in 1922 and he was bred by William Meiklem, Begg, Kirkcaldy. 

Benefactor  was a tightly bred stallion, for his dam, Maud of Begg like his paternal granddam, Lady Ivo, was Dunure Footprint daughters. Benefactors sire was Fyvie Sensation by Hiawatha Again.

Messrs. Thomas and Matthew Templeton paid 4,400 guineas for Benefactor in 1925 at the Netherhall Dispersal Sale.

Benefactor led the breeding sire list in Scotland for seven years, 1928-1934.

Benefactor sired five Cawdor Cup winners, three females and two males.

  • 1933 - Faraway

  • 1935 - Powerful Link

The magnificent Benefactor made an important contribution to the Clydesdale breed and today you can se him on the cover of the Clydesdale Horse Society studbook.
